Happy New Year guys, hope you are feeling better than ever and ready to have a great 2023!!
Last year we seen a rise in non invasive skin treatments and I think the trend to look after your skin and have it at its best will continue. We all know how much we love facials and botox and fillers but one of the best treatments we offer is Microneedling, otherwise known as dermapen or dermaroller.
We use a dermapen in our clinic for micro needling treatments but you might not know what for or if its a good treatment option for you.
There are two reasons to use microneedling: to increase the efficacy of skincare products and to stimulate growth factors and collagen production within the skin. This is why microneedling is often used in conjunction with other in clinic treatments such as PRP and Mesotherapy but we’ll get into that later..
Microneedling is used to stimulate the skin’s wound-healing response, which can help with wrinkles, scarring, stretch marks, sun damage, and ageing skin. From medical needling alone, you can gain a 205% increase in the thickness of the dermis, which is extremely helpful with fighting the signs of ageing. As we age our skin produces less collagen unless our skin suffers a trauma in which case our natural would healing response encourages our skin to produce more collagen to heal quickly. This is what microneedling is essentially, tricking your skin into producing more collagen.
If we add a chemical peel to the treatment the results are amplified especially if you are treating overall aging and pigmentation.
We can also combine Dermapen treatment with Mesotherapy. Mesotherapy is a treatment that involves introducing a cocktail of ingredients into the middle layer of the skin. this cocktail contains 55 nutritional ingredients and hyaluronic acid: vitamins, amino acids, coenzymes, nucleic acids, minerals, antioxidants. So its definitely the good kind of cocktail!! It deeply revitalises and moisturises skin in need of radiance, tone, elasticity or firmness.
The most advanced addition to our microneedling treatment is PRP. PRP – or Platelet-Rich Plasma, to give it its proper name – is a treatment that involves introducing plasma extracted from your own blood into the treatment area. We use PRP to treat the skin, either on the face and décolletage or the scalp and body. But PRP is used outside of medical aesthetics in medicine for pain and joint care too to promote healing.
First, you have a small amount of blood – about 15ml – taken from your arm. Vials containing this blood are placed in a centrifuge, which looks like a small medical version of a spin-dryer, and spun for five minutes until the red blood cells in the blood separate from the clear plasma. This plasma is packed with platelets, which are able to generate growth factors, which in turn can spot any damage within the skin and set about repairing it. The plasma is the applied to the skin and absorbed through the tiny holes made from the microneedling.
As an aesthetic treatment, PRP is good for improving skin texture because, along with that regeneration comes a nice fresher, smoother top layer to the skin. For anyone with an aversion to having foreign substances such as fillers injected into their face or decolletage, this is a viable alternative. It won’t give you the volume boost that dermal fillers provide, but it should smooth the skin and give it a glow, soften wrinkles, and plump up the skin’s surface.
Microneedling on is own takes approx 1 hour to complete and an extra 15-20 minutes if you choose to add on any extras…
Pain wise it can be slightly uncomfortable in areas but we use a numbing cream to keep you as comfortable as possible.
